Ulavacharu Biryani is a trilingual Indian romantic comedy film directed and produced by Prakash Raj starring Prakash Raj, Sneha, and Regina Cassandra.
Ulavacharu Biryani is all about romance between two couples who came to know each other accidentally due the common love for food. The story revolves around the lives of four people, Kalidasu played by Prakash Raj, Gowri played by Sneha, Naveen played by Tejus, and Meghana played by Samyuktha Hornad. Both Kalidasu and Gowri are unmarried and they share love and life for food.
Kalidasu who works in the State Archaeological Department is a food lover and in his house, his cook is his only companion. His nephew, Naveen, his nephew comes to stay with him to find a job. Gowri, a dubbing artist lives with her friend, Meghana. Both Kalidasu and Gowri are at their middle age and they live their life on their own terms. One day Kalidasu got a misdialed call from Gowri when she actually wanted to order food from restaurant. Initially their conversation didn’t go well but with time romance develops due to their common love for food. Both of them get jitters even before meeting each other face to face. However, they become conscious of their physical appearance and so they send younger and good looking substitutes. Naveen from Kalidasu’s side and Meghana from Gowri’s side meet up. These two didn’t realize that the other person is a substitute since both Naveen and Meghana introduced themselves as Kalidasu and Gowri respectively. As a result they tell their own older counterpart’s relationship that the person isn’t suitable for them at all. However, the younger couple continues for some time together and gets separated with some emptiness in the relationship. Kalidasu and Gowri are left with unexpressed emotions due to immature decisions even though they have love for each other. So, what could be the reason behind this distance and do they come together ever or not? The rest of story is all about these issues which should be watched only on the screen.
Once again Prakash Raj proved himself as a versatile actor with a perfect balance over all the feelings and emotions. Sneha also had done a good job with grace and no one else could have done better job than her. She justified the role of a dubbing artist and a foodie. Both Tejus and Smayuktha have done good job and didn’t gave a chance to complain. Comedy by MS Narayana and Bramhaji was needed little more. In the middle, the story wasn’t clear and confusing on where it is heading. Movie runs in a pretty slow pace making the audience feel bored and at the same time the dialogues could have been better. Long running movie became the disadvantage of it. Coming to technical things, cinematography was very good. The editor could have removed unnecessary scenes. One of the biggest assets of this film is Ilayaraja’s music. The songs were also so good.
Verdict: Overall Ulavacharu Biryani is an average film which lacked story and is dragging. Plus points of it are the cinematography and the music. It’s a regular film with average entertainment in it. Nothing big in it, no twists and a very old common story. Simply, the biryani doesn’t have ingredients in required quantities and became an average dish.
