The Maze Runner is a Hollywood science fiction action thriller film directed by Wes Ball and produced by Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Wyck Godfrey, Martyr Bowen, Lee Stollman starring Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Will Poulter, Ki Hong Lee. It is based on the novel, The Maze Runner by James Dashner.
After losing memory, Thomas became mysteriously deposited to the Glade, a greasy field that is surrounded by high walls of a gigantic maze where few other boys have also been trapped. So, how will this group escape from this maze?
Thomas seeks answers from everyone in that maze when he gets horrified and plagued by various flashes of a dream. But unfortunately, his fellow prisoners are clueless too. They just know how every morning, the doors open giving them the best runners opportunity to map the shifting labyrinth to find the way out of the maze.
They need to return before the gate closes since during the nights, they have battle with dangerous creatures called the Grievers. They have tried it many times but failed all the time. So, how will they escape from that maze and what could be the key.
Based on the novel named same as the movie by James Dashner, this thriller film will make you feel claustrophobic whenever the runners run through the narrow paths in the maze. Few such fast paced sequences will leave you breathless with much anxiety. Dar and tensed atmosphere with some constant fear grips you and keep you on the edge of the seat till the climax.
It’s a battle to survive and that too under controlled environment which reminds you of The Hunger Games with lots of twists and turns. All the teen actors have done a wonderful job plus the film focuses on human emotions and on special effects as well. After watching it, you’ll think if being safe to suffer is better than risking life to look beyond the obvious.
Verdict: The film successfully convinces the audience to move out of the comfort zone and face the fear. The film seems underwhelming for some people but its build up is a winner and deserves a sequel.
