Mary Kom is an Indian female boxer and she has her own success story as a 5 time world amateur boxing champion and she made our country proud when she bagged the bronze in the 2012 Summer Olympics. This flm, Mary Kom is a Hindi film on her directed by Omung Kumar, produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali starring Priyanka Chopra, Sunil Thapa, Darshan Kumaar, Rajni Basumatary, Zachary Coffin,Shishir Sharma.
The story is based on India’s most high profile female pugilist in the years between 1991 and 2007. It was shot in Imphal, Manipur where this sportswoman was bred. Mary was born in Kangathei and when she was only a tenager, she decided to be a boxer. She started her journey towards her goal under the guidance of her coach, M. Narjit Singh played by Sunil Thapa. But she also chose the matters of heart, marriage and kids just before coming back to win global recognition yet again in 2008, 2010, and 2012. The filmmaker has captured her life very beautifully throwing the light on the sports.
Priyanka may not have transcended Mary’s physical attributes completely except adding few freckles and slightly droping eyelids but she had brought the boxer life very well. So, one star is definitely reserved for her extraordinary performance.
Omsung had done a nice job with emotional tracks in the first half between Mary and her father, and Mary and her husband (Robin Das), Onler (Darshan Kumar).
The film, Mary Kom just doesn’t give you the ring side view of boxing but also leaves you rooting for our sportsmen who have put our country, India on the world map.
Verdict: Mary Kom is a must watch in simple words.
