Lucy is a Hollywood action film directed by Luc Besson and produced by Virginie Silla starring Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman, Amr Waked, Choi Min-sik which was released on 25th July, 2014 in US and on 6th Aug, 2014 in France.

The story starts when Lucy takes one wrong decision that changes her life. Her boyfriend deceives her who coerces her into undertaking a delivery job. She has been used to drug mule. She is accidentally exposed to an overdose of experimental drugs she was about to transfer. The premise is built on a myth that humans can use only 10% of the brain. What’ll happen when we use 100% of it? This is what happens to Lucy. Her brain power keeps on increasing making her highly volatile, walking, talking time bomb which is about to explode. So, what’s going to happen when her brain completely unlocks its power?

The film concept is intriguing and thought provoking. Lucy’s dilemma is gripping and so mysterious. The film slowly starts oscillating between sci-fi, philosophy and action. Somewhere you’ll find it’s pseudo-cerebral and convoluted.

Morgan Freeman did well in his part while Scarlett Johansson was convincing but after sometime, the film seems far-fetched and her character loses the sheen. While we are looking for her rising brain potential, changing psychic power, the filmmaker has concentrated more on her super powers instead.

Verdict: Lucy loses everything that makes her a human. She no more feels the pain and fear of death. This is why Lucy failed to impress the audience. However, if you are a fan of such experimental films, go ahead.
