Loukyam is a Telugu action film directed by Sriwass and produced by V. Anand Prasad starring Gopichand, Rakul Preet Singh, Brahmanandam.
The story is about a smart young man, Venky who tends to solve all most all the problems. One day he meets Chandrakala and falls in love with her but then comes to know that hesomehow rubbed her elder brother earlier in the wrong side. Now it’s his turn to solve his own problem to get married to her. He solves all the problems in her house to win her.
Loukyam follows the trend which matters in a big budget film. Just select few scenes and make the audience laugh. The plot is convoluted and mundane which can probably make twists and surprise you. Few gags are quite inventive but this film seems like Looney Tunes show with time. The film is funny sometimes and makes no sense on what’s it trying to do.
Venkateswarlu aka Venky has solution to whatever the problem may be. This smart guy can solve problems easily. Once he tries helping a girl elope and somehow rubs her elder brother in a wrong way. And then he bumps into an arrogant yet beautiful girl, Chandrakala whom he loves and confesses the same to her. Then gets to know about her brother whom he troubled earlier, decides to solve Chandrakala’s family problems and win her to get married.
Almost all the characters have a sense of déjà vu especially Gopichand and Sampath’s characters are designed and written. The quintessential hero, Gopichand confuses everyone in the home to get what he wants from them and on the other hand, the villain, Sampath is reduced to a puppet in larger scheme of things. Loukyam is far away from action dramaswhich Gopichand has done in many films before. Rakul gets good screen time and proved her good acting skills impressing everyone. The first half of the film is full of her spark showing her arrogant side but her role in the second half has reduced significantly.
The credit to the success of this film goes to Prudhvi Raj and Brahmanandam. Prudhvi’s role is one of the best role he has ever done over these many years. On the other hand, Brahmanandam as Sippy breezes out through this role of a cab driver and gets caught in madness.
The directed relied on the tested formula in this film till the climax. Sriwass depended on the comedy scenes throughout the film. For such a film to give comic relief, the ample scenes in it salvage the routine action comedy. This film knows what to do and what not to do to keep the audience happy and make them laugh although it’s quite predictable as the scene starts.
Verdict: Loukyam is a good film to watch with your family to enjoy the comedy scenes by both Prudhvi and Brahmanandam. You’ll also enjoy the lead pair roles.
