Into The Storm is a Hollywood action film directed by Steven Quale and produced by Todd Garner starring Richard Armitage, Sarah Wayne Callies, Matt Walsh, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Arlen Escarpeta.
"Into the storm" is exactly what you think it is. A movie about surreal tornadoes that rip apart human settlements. The idea that nature strikes back is not new to us but it does instill a great sense of foreboding. Digitally terrifying storms ravaging the lands may seem great on screen but sends chills down the spine when we realize that this is all possible. An immediate thumbs up should be given to the animation team for producing realistic looking tornadoes and also the sound effects and general background score was phenomenal. It really made my head "spin". That was a bad pun. Talking about bad puns, the only plus points about the whole movie was the animation and sound. The acting and cinematography on the other hand is really just badly constructed puns.
Let’s talk about the cast. We have a list of probably the most generic characters ever. We have Gary who is a high school principal and single dad (Richard Armitage) who is unable to spend quality time with his two kids, Donnie (Max Deacon) and Trey (Nathan Kress). Donnie like all shy teenagers can't ask out Kaitlyn (Alycia Debnam Carey) who's his crush. There are also these group of storm chasers who keep missing tornadoes for a documentary film and are losing funding, there is Alison (Sarah Wayne Callies) who is the meteorologist and a movie star, Pete (Matt Walsh). I am a huge fan of the walking dead series and I love the character Sarah plays (Lori Grimes), so I did have huge expectations of her but they were short lived. All the characters seemed to be forced into a situation and it never actually build up to anything meaningful. The dialogues seemed monotonous at best. The comic relief provided by the usually rednecks was just plain boring.
The cinematography was lazy; it just featured several amateur videographers running around. It did not create the feel of tension which one would experience during a storm where survival would be the first thought and not taking selfies with the storm.
Verdict: Overall the plot was very predictable, you will not enjoy the POV from ground level shots, the music and sound effects were great and the best part of the whole movie was the animation. So I would suggest this is a good movie if you are interested in looking at swirlings winds of doom and nothing else.
