Humshakals is a Bollywood film directed by Sajid Khan and produced by Vashu Bhangnani starring Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Ram Kapoor, Tamannah Bhaita, Bipasha Basu, Esha Gupta, Satish Shah, Darshan Jariwala, Chunkey Pandey. It was released on 20th June, 2014.
The story concept of the movie Humshakals is the confusion that takes place between people who lookalike that too with same names. Best friends Saif Ali Khan and Riteish Deshmukh named as Ashok and Kumar respectively who weren’t aware of another best friends Ashok and Kumar who again are unaware of another best friends Saif Ali Khan and Riteish Deshmukh with names Ashok and Kumar. Another cast of Ram Kapoor as Mamaji also has two more lookalikes with names same as him. So, the movie has triple roles of Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, and Ram Kapoor.
Ashok (Saif) is a billionaire in London who does stupid comedy which even his best buddy, Kumar (Ritesh) can’t bear. But later, TV star, Shanaya (Tamannah) finds him funny. His wicked uncle, Kunwar Amar Nath Singh aka Kans slips him mad mind altering drug and as a result they reach Lord Cray G. Mental Asylum. Kans mama thinks he won it but these two buddies found humshakals. Now it’s the time for Kans mama’s humshakal to enter and the story twists.
With such a plot, Humshakal needs terrific acting. Both Saif and Ritesh have done good job but the story can hardly be told. First half of the story is quite distracting with mindless sequences with comas, electric shocks, etc. and the second half becomes funnier and better. The comedy could have been better and the plot was just average.
Verdict: Humshakals flops with weak plot, dull comedy and a long stretched plot. Editor could have done better by shredding 30 min and made it consistent fun. The film can be watched only if you are a fan of Saif or Ritesh.
