Chaar Sahibzaade is a Hindi religious anime film directed by Harry Baweja and produced by Pammi Baweja. It is about the last of the 10 living Sikh gurus, Guru Gobind Singh’s four sons or Chaar Saahibzaade. These four people sacrificed their lives for the sake of their religion and to safeguard it. They did this to fight the injustice, tyranny of Mughals and religious fanaticism.
If you are not aware of the Sikh history and culture then you should watch Chaar Sahibzaade for the courage and sacrifices made by these four pioneers. The film is made saluting the valour of these warriors, their immense contribution, and their noble principles towards their religion.
We should thank Harry Baweja for telling us the tale of Guru Gobind Singh, the initiator of the Sikh Khalsa and his brave four sons who refused to bow their heads before the Mughals. The story is about the war led by Wazir Khan, the battle of Chamkaur.
Om Puri narrates the story and lets us know why the Guru had to leave Anandpur sahib first of all. Then the story introduces the Chaar Sahibzaade, Ajit Singh, Jujhar Singh, Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their religion and their people. The film also shows us how the Mughals failed to capture Guru Gobind Singh and ruthlessly bricked Guru’s younger sons alive because he wasn’t converting to Islam.
As pre today’s standards of animation, Chaar Sahibzaade lacked the technology but it made up to the mark regarding its engaging content. Moreover the makers had few limitations such as they cannot animate Guru Gobind Singh. So, all of his images were just stills. Also the voice over artists’ names didn’t come out due the sensitivity of the subject.
Harry Baweja, the director managed to inspire and touch the audience hearts bringing out the historic event to life on the big screen with great conviction. Show your children this film to let them know about the real heroes of our country who lived and fought for real with no superpowers but with unflinching courage and devotion.
