2 States is a Hindi Romantic comedy movie released on 18th April, 2014 directed by Abhishek Varman. The story is based on the novel written by Chetan Bhagat, 2 States. Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala produced this film with Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt as the lead characters. This movie received mixed reviews and is on the hit list now.

The story revolves around IIM Ahmedabad and starts at the mess with a querrel with the mess people where the Punjab munda, Krish first time sees the beautiful Tamilian girl, Ananya. Both of them become friends, study together and fall in love. The get well settled in their career and took serious plans for marriage. Krish tries to convince Ananya's parents for marriage at every point. He impresses her father with his presenation, helps Ananya's brother, Manju with exams and asks her mother to sign n a concert organised by his workplace. Followed by this, they try to convince Krish's mother but the problem is Krish's maternal family is completely against this marriage. Fortunately Ananya succeeds in helpping Krish's cousin's marriage and wins hearts of Krish's family. Finally they tried to make both the families meet and respect each other after a disastrous meeting. One of the problems were Krish's mother's anger who kept on pointing Ananya's family. Krish tried to manage as much as possible but at some point Ananya's family over hears and so Ananya had to take her hard decision to end the relationship. But, finally Krish's father manages to convince Ananya's family apoligizing for his wife's misbehaviour. At the end, after marriage, Krish becaomes an author and a father of twin boys.

The movie, 2 States gained many positive reviews so far. Many people rated it 4 - 4.5 points out of 5 points. This is one of those rare movies which can be watched again and again. The movie is a mirror for the parents to understand their children. Chetan Bhagat's best selling book, 2 States is much popular from which Abhishek Varman tried his best but however it missed Bhagat's magic. Bhagat's fans may not like it to the core but still it s worth a watch. There are sites which rated the movie 2.5 - 3 out of 5 due to the over stretched querrels between the twwo families. Some may not like the family drama. Many liked the first half of the movie where the two people from two different states had sweet and beautiful scenes and songs but the second half failed to impress much.
However, both Arjun and Alia did a fabulous job at their roles. Alia left all her previous films back and got into the character. She looked fresh, easy and all natural in this movie.
