But there are many vegetables which healthy and can prevent cancer. Such vegetables are known as cruciferous vegetables which can reduce the risk of cancer. How do these vegetables prevent cancer?

 

There is a chemical called glucosinolates that can fight biological compounds and contain cancer fighting properties. This chemical is usually found in Cruciferous vegetables.

 

While preparation of these food or while cooking, chewing and during digestion, this chemical gets broken down forming biologically active compounds such as nitriles, indoles, thiocyanates and isothiocyanates etc. Indole-3-carbinol is an indole while sulforaphane is an isothiocyanate. These two have proved their effectiveness in anti-cancer protection.

 

These cruciferous vegetables are very much essential to reduce the risk of colon cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, and prostate cancer.
