Swiss Ball

We’ve all got habituated to couch-potato lifestyle but do you know its side effects? It’s obviously not good for your back, is it? So, next time try to sit in a different style. Try something new. Why don’t you try an exercise ball instead of your regular couch? It’s also called Swiss ball and these are getting quite popular in office cubicles. It can tone you up and banish drowsiness as well.

Benefits:

When you use this ball, you struggle to balance and so you tend to use your muscles. As a result, your stomach and back become strong. This is called active sitting which is a better option over sitting in sofa which uses no muscle. You also sit straight since there is no armrest or any other support while on regular chairs, you tend to hutch over affecting your body posture and back pain. These things doesn’t happen with Swiss balls.

Few Things to Remember:

- You need to get a good quality ball that won't burst or lose air quickly. Few balls have such problems.

- Pump air in it often to almost maximum so that it doesn’t let you sink into it.

- Always sit at a 90 degree angle with your thighs and legs parallel to the ball.

- Make sure to use the ball for short sessions, say 15 minutes.

- Please avoid using the ball if you have back pain or osteoporosis.
