We know how acidity feels like. Almost everyone undergoes through this situation. Anything could be the reason. It could be due to over eating or due to spicy food. What so ever may be the reason, we are left with that uncomfortable experience leading to reach that antacid bottle. But we have many alternatives to this bottle of antacid which we often forget. Too much medication isn’t good for us and so next time acidity attacks you, try these natural remedies instead.

 

 

Acidity

 

 

Bananas:

 

With rich potassium content, bananas can alkalize with its high pH value. A component in bananas makes the stomach lining produce mucous which protects inner lining of stomach. High fibre content in bananas aids in digestion too. If possible eat overripe bananas while suffering from acidity.

 

 

Basil Leaves:

 

The compounds in Basil aids in digestion and stimulates the stomach in producing mucous. It has potent anti-ulcer properties too. It reduces the affects of peptic acid in the stomach preventing acidity. Take 5 – 6 basil leaves after your meal for instant relief.

 

 

Cold Milk:

 

Milk is a rich source of calcium that prevents acidity absorbing excess acid production. When cold, milk can provide instant relief from burning sensation in your stomach. Make sure to drink it without any additives such as sugar. But you can definitely mix a spoon of ghee for effective results.

 

 

Fennel Seeds:

 

Fennel seeds can aid in digestion and relieve constipation. It’s rich in volatile oils containing plamitic acid, flavonoid, etc. Fennel seeds have anti-ulcer properties too. They also act as coolant for the stomach lining. Boil few seeds in some water and leave it overnight. Drink this water whenever you feel uneasiness.

 

 

Cumin Seeds:

 

Cumin seeds stimulate the saliva production which aids in digestion and relieves gases. It also cures ulcers formed due to acidity. Chew them directly or boil them in some water and drink this water

 

 

Cloves:

 

Cloves also aids in digestion by stimulating saliva production. Bite a clove with teeth and keep it in mouth making the clove juice to release into your mouth.

 

 

Cardamom:

 

Cardamom aids in digestion and cures stomach spasms. It soothes the mucous stomach mucous lining warding off the excess acid produced. Crush two cardamom pods and boil it in some water. Drink it for instant relief.

 

 

Mint or Pudina Leaves:

 

Both these leaves can reduce acidity and aid in digestion. Providing the cooling effect they can reduce the pain and burning sensation. Chop[ the leaves and add to some boiling water. Drink it for great results.

 

 

Ginger:

 

Ginger aids in digestion too and fights against ulcers promoting mucous secretion and reducing the effects of acidity. Crush a piece of ginger and add it to boiling water. Drink this water or just chew it directly. You can also mix a crushed ginger with jaggery and keep sucking it slowly.

 

 

Indian Gooseberries:

 

These are rich in vitamin C and so can heal the injured stomach lining and oesophagus lining. Take a teaspoon of its powder twice a day for great results.
