‘Lather, rinse, repeat’. This is what we read on the shampoo bottles and this used to be called as a mantra to shiny and silky hair but not now anymore. The ‘No Poo’ rule is now spreading all over ditching the shampoo.

We know that chemicals like sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate used in shampoos affect the scalp and hair very badly. Now many people prefer to wash their hair with plain water or baking soda instead. When coming to India, women are now finding many alternative substitutes to shampoos. The magic ingredients could be in the kitchen itself.

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile Tea

You know that how chamomile tea is good for your health and now it’s equally good for your hair too. Chamomile is well known to prevent the scalp from drying and it softens the hair and this makes chamomile a good hair cleanser. Take strained chamomile tea and rinse your hair with it. Massage your scalp well with this tea and then rinse off with water. It smells great too.

Amla (Indian gooseberry)

Amla

You know well that your granny used to sneer at the fancy shampoos and only trusted homemade amla paste instead of them. She was right always. Amla is rich in vitamin C which prevents scalp from getting infections and it also helps in deep conditioning leaving your hair smoother than before. Rinse your hair with amla at least twice a week and we are sure, that your hair won’t miss shampoo anymore.

Lemon

Lemon

The pollution in India is increasing day by day. A lemon can be a great alternative to a shampoo as a cleanser. It has anti-bacterial properties which helps greatly in keeping your scalp squeaky clean and non-greasy. Dilute some lemon juice in some water and rinse your hair with it. Make sure to massage your scalp as well. Leave it for few minutes and then rinse well.

Beer

Beer

Beer isn’t good for your belly and health when consumed regularly but it’s good for your hair for sure. It acts as a great cleanser and also adds volume to your tresses. It’s quite rich in carbohydrates which hydrate the hair and the wheat proteins in it strengthen the hair. So, next time, instead of drinking it, wash your hair with it. However, not everyone is comfortable to even get it and wash. You can use other alternatives instead.
