Finally it started raining and you know what it means. We are all happy for the reduced temperature and enjoy getting wet in rain. But unfortunately it brings a host of diseases with it and out of which few are quite frequent. Let’s check what those diseases are and how to prevent them.

 

Monsoon Diseases

 

Malaria

 

Symptoms:


Fever, chills, sweating, body pains, cold etc. Danger signs of Malaria include unconsciousness, convulsions, drowsiness, inability to walk, sit, speak, eat, confusion, vomiting, passing small quantity of urine or no urine, diarrhea, bleeding from nose or gums, dehydration, anemia etc.



Prevention:


1. Keep yourself safe from mosquito bites.

2. Use insecticide-treated mosquito nets while sleeping.

3. Use insecticides at home.

4. Use mosquito repellents for your skin.

5. Try to control mosquito breeding.

 
Leptospirosis


Symptoms:


Fever, headache, abdominal pain, muscle pain, chills, eye redness, jaundice, haemorrhages in skin, vomiting, rashes, diarrhea, etc.
 

Prevention:


Keep a track on the rodent population in your area and stay away from infected animals and contaminated water. Don’t swim in such water and drink only boiled water. It’s important to prevent this infection from human host by vaccination.

 
Dengue


Symptoms:


Fever, headache, muscle and joints pain, exhaustion, rashes, swollen glands, bleeding gums, pain behind eyes, red palms and soles, etc.

 
Prevention:


1. Try to control or eradicate mosquitoes which may carry virus.

2. Remove stagnant water from places like flower pots, trash cans, old tires, etc.

3. Try to stay indoors two hours before sunrise and two hours after sunset to stay away from the Aedes aegypti mosquito which is a day time biter especially during sunrise and sunset.

 
Hoid


Symptoms:


Fever, headache, body pains, stomach ache, diarrhea, loss of appetite, rashes, etc.

 
Prevention:


1. Vaccinate yourself against Hoid.

2. Drink only boiled water and eat well cooked food.

3. Avoid road side foods totally.

 
Jaundice


Symptoms:


Yellow eyes, yellow skin, yellow tongue, yellow urine, pain in liver region, loss of appertite, nausea, bitter taste, constipation, weakness, headache, undue fatigue, etc.

 
Prevention:


1. Consume fruit juices regularly to prevent liver damage and have hot water.

2. Lemon juice with hot water can also prevent liver damage.

3. Hot and cold compress alternatively to the abdomen can also be done.

4.  A hot immersion bath at 104 degree Fahrenheit for 10 minutes regularly can eliminate bile pigment through skin and kidneys.

Gastroenteritis


Symptoms:


Vomiting, diarrhea, fever, headache, abdominal cramps, etc.

 

Prevention:


1. Wash your hands frequently.

2. Use chlorine bleach based cleaners to disinfect contaminated surfaces at home.

3. Vaccination can help you prevent rotavirus gastroenteritis.
