The season has changed so we should. This winter what should you eat? Here are few super foods listed which are capable of protecting us from cold and flu this season.

 

Food such as lean proteins, whole grains and low fat dairy products are must along with minimum exercise, low stress level and enough sound sleep for the sake of a good immune system. This will also help you in recovering from cold or flu easily.

 

 

Winter

 

 

1. Carrots:

 

Carrots are rich in beta-carotene and so these can be used for soups, risotto and stews. Carrots being packed with vitamin A can fight cold and flu, and prevent infections.

 

 

2. Green Tea and Chamomile Tea:

 

Green tea is an antioxidant with anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties in it. Intake of 3 – 5 cups of this tea can boost your immunity. Chamomile tea is also full of anti-oxidants which fights against cold and flu especially during winter.

 

 

3. Mushrooms:

 

Mushrooms can boost the immunity and protect us from cold and flu. White mushrooms are rich in natural killer cells, a component of immune system.

 

 

4. Garlic:

 

It it well known that garlic can be used as a home remedy to cure cold and fever. Garlic increases the levels of enzymes which enable the liver to detoxify the blood and boosts immunity. Raw garlic is more powerful than cooked one.

 

 

5. Honey:

 

Everyone knows well and uses honey whenever someone is suffering from fever. With anti-bacterial properties, honey can easily fight bacteria and virus. Honey if taken every night before going to sleep, you can’t get cold or fever easily. Just mix it in a cup of warm milk and drink it.

 

 

6. Pomegranate:

 

Pomegranates are rich in anti-oxidants especially an antioxidant called anthocyanins. It reduces the risk of developing few types of cancers such as prostate cancer and it also lowers the risk of heart disease.

 

 

7. Citrus Fruits:

 

Citrus fruits such as lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, etc. have fresh flavour during these dull cold days. These fruits being rich in vitamin C can fight cold and flu.

 

 

8. Cinnamon:

 

Cinnamons are great when the days are cold. The essential oil in cinnamon contains anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties which is very much useful this winter season.
