Here is yet another last minute entertaining dish recipe.

The three delicious ingredients in this simple recipe can make this dish a complex of sweet and salty. Bacon, dates, and melting cheese can together make this delicious appetizer. The name is

devils on horseback and this because of the black dates and perhaps it’s called horseback since the bacons sit on the dates.

It has a great balance between salt and sweet and at the same time, it’s crispy, chewy, and crunchy.

Devils on Horseback

Ingredients:

Toothpicks – 20

Reduced – sodium soy sauce – ¼ cup

Ground ginger – ½ tsp

Dark brown sugar – ¾ cup

Dates, pitted and left whole – 20

Smoked almonds – 20

Bacon slices cut in half crosswise – 10

Direction:

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F or 200 degrees C.

2. Soak 20 toothpicks in a bowl of water and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

3. Mix soy sauce and ground ginger in a bowl and take brown sugar in a shallow bowl.

4. Take a pitted date and open it. Stuff smoked almond into it and then wrap the date with a bacon slice and insert a toothpick into it. Now do pot in soy sauce mixture and then dip it into brown sugar.

5. Do this to all the dates and place them into the prepared baking dish. If you want, you can sprinkle some brown sugar on the dates.

6. Bake them in the oven till they turn brown and crisp. It usually takes 15 – 20 minutes.

7. Let them cool down and then serve.

Even dried apricots or prunes can be used instead of dates and mango chutney instead of almonds. Use watercress as topping.
