Anxiety

You are on the bed now but still unable to sleep. It may because you are thinking about something. It may be your job, some project, health insurance, family problem or anything. Time is passing by this way and now you realize that you aren’t getting sleep.

In such cases we always hear a regular advice, “Stop thinking too much and stay positive.” Let’s not discuss about it yet again. This time let’s see different unusual ways to cope with it.

1. Repeat the same worry till you’re bored.

If you are scared of using elevators, you can get rid of it if you use it a hundred times in a row. Initially you’ll be very anxious but later on it’ll decrease. So, take your troublesome thought, whatever it may be and say it to yourself repeatedly for 20 min. You won’t worry about it anymore if you repeat this so many times.

2. Make it worse.

When you try to control your anxiety, it only increases. So, don’t do this and exaggerate the thought instead. Suppose you are scared that your mind will go blank while giving a presentation, intentionally fake it in the middle of the presentation. Say, “What was I about to say now?” This makes no difference. Everything will be fine.

3. Don’t fight the craziness.

You may get thoughts occasionally leading you to think you’ll do something terrible. You go crazy sometimes in your mind. Don’t judge yourself and move on. This happens to everyone.

4. Recognize false alarms.

You get false alarms so often. You forgot your iron on and you keep on imagining your house burning. Your heart is beating fast but this doesn’t mean you’ll get heart attack. These things are never going to happen. You just need to recognize and say to yourself, “Oh come on. One more silly thought. How’s this even possible?” and then move on.

5. Turn your anxiety into a movie.

Let go off the worry simply by disconnecting it from yourself. Think these thoughts are a show or a movie. Just watch it and let go.

6. Set the worry time.

You were doing something and suddenly and your anxiety comes out unannounced. Stop them right away. Keep them aside. Set a fixed time for all the worries. Say, at 4:00pm it’s your worry time. Don’t worry about anything till that time. Now you’ve spent your entire day anxiety free.
