Gum disease which is also known as gingivitis is characterized by symptoms like bad breath, swollen gums, bleeding gums, loose teeth, etc. Poor oral hygiene resulting in plaque buildup is the main cause. Factors like hormonal changes, smoking, genetic predisposition, poor nutrition, stress, diabetes, medications, and other diseases also contribute to it.

 

The most common way to relieve this problem is by rinsing mouth with warm salt water. There are yet many home remedies to cure gum problems and prevent further complications.

 

Hydrogen Peroxide

 

Hydrogen Peroxide

 

Hydrogen peroxide has anti-bacterial properties. It also helps in whitening of teeth. Use 3% H2O2 for this purpose.

Take H2O2 and water in 1:1 ratio and mix them. Rinse your mouth with it for few seconds. Do this twice or thrice a week.

You can mix little H2O2 in a teaspoon of baking soda and make paste of it. Use this to brush your teeth for twice or thrice a week.

Apply a paste of clove oil and H2O2 to your teeth and gums and leave it for few seconds and then rinse it off.

Make sure you do not swallow it and H2O2 shouldn’t be used more than once a day.

 

Aloe Vera

 

Aloe Vera has anti-inflammatory and healing properties. It fights with bacteria causing gum diseases and prevents mouth ulcers and bad breath.

Massage Aloe Vera gel to your gums and leave it for 30 min and then rinse. Do this few times a day.

Swish some of its juice in your mouth few times and then rinse.

Drink two teaspoons of its juice regularly.

Make sure you drink as prescribed. Drinking too much of its juice may result in laxative effect.

 

Cranberry Juice

Cranberry juice is rich in vitamin C and it fights gum diseases and infection.

Have an ounce of this juice regularly to prevent bacteria from sticking to your teeth.

 

Oil Pulling

 

Oil pulling strengthens teeth and gums, reduces plaque, and prevents bad breath.

Swish one tablespoon of sesame oil in your mouth and through teeth regularly for 15 minutes or till it becomes thinner. Then rinse your mouth well with some water. For better results, prefer coconut oil. Make sure you do not gargle or swallow it.

 

Myrrh

 

Myrrh treats gum diseases and maintains hygiene. It has antibacterial and antiseptic properties.

10 drops of Myrrh tincture with some warm water can be used to rinse mouth. Even salt can be added to this water. Do this once or twice a week.

Mix myrrh and Echinacea tinctures can be mixed in 1:1 ratio and use it as mouth wash. Do this regularly for few days.

 

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has anti-inflammatory properties and so it soothes irritated and inflamed gums.

Tea tree oil gel when applied tropically can reduce gum bleeding and gingivitis. But it don’t reduce plaque.

Take few drops of tea tree oil on your toothpaste or get toothpaste containing tea tree oil and brush your teeth with it twice a day. Do this for few weeks. Make sure you do not swallow it.

 

So these are few simple home remedies you can follow if you have gum problems. These can be followed to prevent the problems beforehand.
