If you eat unhealthy and irregular meals, then you might be at risk of running out of vitamins and minerals. Such people may need to take multivitamins but if you take healthy food and in time without skipping a single meal, then you may not need multivitamins since your body gets enough nutrients.

 

 

What is a multivitamin actually? It’s a synthetic preparation taken as a dietary supplement. It’s a combination of vitamins and minerals including all essential nutrients.

 

 

These are available in many forms such as tablets, powders, liquids, etc. Mostly pills are preferred since they are even easy to carry anywhere. They are different from plain supplements since they don’t contain any drug, hormones or herbs like others.

 


Both children and adults need adequate amounts of these vitamins and minerals for proper bodily functions. When your body doesn’t get enough nutrients, these multivitamins compensate the inadequacy.

 

 

In long run, these nutrients help in prevention of serious diseases such as cancer and heart diseases. These are very much essential for pregnant women to provide enough folic acid. Elderly people may need vitamin B12 and vegetarians need iron, calcium and vitamin B12 supplements in addition.

 

 

Multivitamin pills are essential to those who can’t cook healthy food and eat, and for those who can’t afford variety of food items required for your body.

 

 

All those who eat poor diet and do not receive enough nutrients supply regularly, multivitamins are very much important to take regularly for healthy body and mind. Such people are at risk of deficiencies. If you are deficient to one or two vitamins, then you can skip multivitamins and take individual supplements.

 


Wholesome foods provide nutrients in adequate amounts. Vegetables, fruits, meat and fish, whole grains, and eggs are full of vitamins and minerals. Also make sure you know nutritional value of different food items and choose those based on your deficiency. If you are consuming all the nutrients daily in required quantities, then you shouldn’t take extra multivitamins. Avoid them completely.
