Weight Loss Myths

 

We find many myths about food, exercise, nutrition and almost everything else. So, here are few myths about weight loss. These include few nutrition and few exercise myths.

 


Myth #1: Exercise makes us eat more and gain weight.



We usually think that if you work hard at the gym, you end up with more hunger resulting in eating more. This as result increases weight but the truth is every time you exercise, it shifts the unwanted flab. In fact, exercise is the best mantra to lose weight.

 


Myth #2: Negative calorie foods such as celery burns more energy.



There is nothing like negative calorie food or positive calorie food. A calorie is a calorie. It’s just a small number but not negative.

 


Myth #3: Slow metabolism results in weight gain.



People on weight loss program are usually seen blaming on slow metabolism. A research says the metabolism rate in fact increases while you gain weight. So, the more muscle you gain, the more your metabolism rate is at rest.

 


Myth #4: You need to exercise during the fat burning zone.



It’s advised to exercise at a low to moderate level of intensity to burn fat. Your body burns more percentage of body fat at low intensities of aerobics but at higher intensities, you are going to burn more kilojoules of fat. Lower intensities are advised to do for longer period of time than high intensities for short period.

 


Myth #5: We gain weight when we stop smoking



It’s incorrect. In fact, smokers can’t control their weight better than non-smokers. Heavy smokers gain weight faster than light smokers. Thin people when start taking up this habit, they slowly increase their weight and if they become heavy smokers, they are more likely to gain weight at faster rate.
